About ARAZ

My name is Michelle. I grew up on a small farm in New Hampshire, and had every shape and size of pet there is at one point or another. I have moved around to different parts of the country and at times, have been petless. I have always seemed to come back to my pet ratties. I have been owned by pet rats, off and on, for about 20 years. They are, by far, my favorite. Perhaps this is because they are low maintenance and take up little space, buit I think it is because of their huge personalities. I would like to share my little loves with the world.

At home with us now is myself, my two children, ages 3 and 11, and other pets including 2 small dogs and 1 cat.

We are a small hobby breeder of pet rats located in San Tan Valley, AZ. All of our rats are our pets first, and raised here in our home. They are well socialized and handled from day one.

Temperment and good health are our first considerations when choosing which rats to breed, next are type and color.

I will not breed a rat who is sick. I will not breed a rat that my children can not handle, meaning aggressive toward people or overly shy or skittish. I also will not breed a rat that is aggressive toward other rats. I strive to breed happy, healthy, unique and wonderful family pets.

My rats get time out of their cages every day to socialize, run around the rat room, hang out on the couch, and be checked over for anything out of the ordinary, etc. (only one gender is allowed out at a time)

In their cages they have lots and lots of toys, such as cat balls, tubes and tunnels, hanging bird toys, wooden chew toys, hammocks, bins, igloos and Space Pods. Sheets of papertowel or news paper are also favorites for them to shred, roll around in and play hide and seek under. They love to chew on and hide in cardboard as well. Papertowel or toilet paper tubes or any type of cardboard box works great. All of these things help prevent boredom and make for a happy, well adjusted rat.
